kalahari adds .com domain
Cape Town - Online retailer kalahari.net has added more domains in order to take the brand to a "wider audience".
The retailer recently acquired the .com and .mobi extensions as it seeks to broaden its base and platforms of operation.
"Furthermore, the .com addition to the growing kalahari commerce offering is in anticipation of us taking best in class knowledge in online product merchandising, pricing, and usability to a wider audience on the rest of the continent in the near future," said kalahari.com CEO Gary Novitzkas.
He said that the goal was that no matter how users entered or what platforms were used, the kalahari destination would be reached.
The company recently launched its mobile site to access a growing market that is economically active on cellphones, tablets and other devices.
"You can have two offerings of the same content, because obviously you can't show a website on a mobile device. Even if you take iPhone, the mobile visual of kalahari for example would be a very small, cluttered event," said Novitzkas.
kalahari has targeted a million registered shoppers on its platform by the end of July 2011.
Other retailers have said that they will take a wait-and-see approach to online retailing, but Novitzkas was bullish about the prospects for the industry.
"I hope that they maintain that standpoint. There's still a lot of upward momentum for the online retailers and I can't imagine that there's a world for much longer where all retailers are just retailers."
The acquisition of the additional domains should ensure kalahari consolidates its footprint.
"By taking ownership of all our domains and properties, we ensure that our customers can find us, irrespective of what they type into the browser, the applications they launch, or the platforms they use," Novitzkas added.
