Boy, 7, attacked by dogs

Pietermaritzburg - A seven-year-old boy suffered bites and lacerations after being attacked by two dogs in Copesville, Pietermaritzburg, on Friday, emergency services said.

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the boy being treated by members of the public who lived in the area, spokesperson Derrick Banks said.

"He had sustained lacerations to his back and arm. He was stabilised on the scene and transported to Northdale Hospital in a serious but stable condition."

It was believed the boy was walking with a group of friends, when two dogs escaped from a residence.

The group ran away but the youngster was unable to get away in time.

"It is alleged that a member of the public was able to chase the dogs away, this in turn helped the child from suffering any further attacks," he said.
