Johannesburg - Three men were arrested after the body of a taxi driver was found next to a railway line near Finetown, Johannesburg police said on Sunday.
Spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said the three men, aged 21, 26 and 31, hijacked a Toyota Venture on Friday evening at about 18:00.
The car had a tracking device and the owner reported it stolen when the driver, 26-year-old Oriel Qwabe from Orange Farm, did not answer his phone.
Members of the flying squad picked up the car's signal in Xavier Street, near Mondeor and the men inside were stopped and searched.
They were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and police also found traces of blood inside the vehicle.
On further questioning, it was established that the driver had been shot and killed during the hijacking, Dlamini said.
One of the men told police Qwabe's body was dumped under the bridge near Finetown.
The three would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday to face charges of hijacking, murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, Dlamini said.
