Johannesburg - The romance between Joost van der Westhuizen and his Lotto love reached a climax on Sunday when the Springbok scrumhalf and Amor Vittone got engaged.
This follows barely three and a half months after Van der Westhuizen's divorce from his former wife Marlene was finalised in the Pretoria High Court on January 17.
Both Van der Westhuizen and Vittone earlier denied rumours of a relationship. According to them they were only friends.
Amor's mother, Delyse Vittone, declined to comment on the engagement on Tuesday.
"She'll hold it against me if I say anything. They have given You magazine exclusive rights. The magazine is sending them to Mauritius for a week at the end of the month as a gift," she said.
Van der Westhuizen said in March that people should wish him and Vittone happiness as she had helped him through difficult times during his divorce.
"Is it that difficult to wish a person some joy? Why should negative
elements always be involved? We are both happy," Van der Westhuizen said.
On the sleeve of her latest CD Young Forever, released in March, Vittone states that the support she gets from her number 9 is incredible.
"You entice the best from me. You make me laugh, sing and dance for joy. Your beautiful heart, special way of caring and loving make me a better person. Thank you for coming into my life and making me realise that nothing is impossible - I love you!" Amore said.
Van der Westhuizen said on Tuesday night that his cell phone batteries were flat. Neither he or Vittone responded to messages.
