ANC continues to make gains

Pretoria - With 78% of votes captured by 23:00 on Thursday, the African National Congress was continuing to make gains on its early two-thirds majority in Wednesday's general election - leading with 8.5 million votes or 69.72%.
The Democratic Alliance was second in line with 1.6 million or 13.15%, followed by the Inkatha Freedom Party with 696 922 votes or 5.74% and the United Democratic Movement with 2.1%.
Both the Independent Democrats and the New National Party had 1.9% of the votes.
The African Christian Democratic Party had 1.7% of the captured votes, the Freedom Front Plus 1.03% and the Pan Africanist Congress 0.73%.
KZN race still on
The race was still on in KwaZulu-Natal, with the ANC leading with 44.43%, the IFP following with 36.98%, and its alliance partner the DA coming in at 10.59%.
In the other contested province, the Western Cape, the ANC had 45.14%, the DA 27.66%, the NNP 9.48% and the ID 8.13%.
The ANC held 66.01% of the votes captured in Gauteng, and the DA 23.15%.
The ruling party held 80.23% of the vote in the Eastern Cape; 80.29% in the Free State; 86.46% in Mpumalanga; 68.87% in the
Northern Cape; 89.54% in Limpopo and 81.28% in the North West.
