Johannesburg - With just under 25% of votes counted in South Africa''s national election, early results indicate that the African National Congress (ANC) is heading for an unsurprising victory of near two-thirds of the vote, with 65.55%.
The official opposition Democratic Alliance, with 17.97%, appears to be faring far more strongly than in the 1999 national election.
The largely KwaZulu-Natal based Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) appears to be confirming its third place with 3.91%.
New party on the block - Patricia de Lille's Independent Democrats (ID) - and the New National Party (NNP) are battling it out for fourth place. At this stage, the NNP has 2.43% of the vote and the ID 2.42%.
Analysts say, however, that the situation could change as more votes are counted.
