NNP urged to rethink ANC link

Cape Town - Western Cape Freedom Front Plus leader Corné Mulder made an urgent appeal to the New National Party on Wednesday to reconsider its relationship with the African National Congress.
Addressing a public meeting at Kleinmond, he said it was not yet too late to do this.
"The voters of the Western Cape are ready to unite against the ANC and its policies. The NNP still can make the right choice and turn its back on the ANC," he said.
The NNP had to realise that its positioning close to the ANC "is finally destroying the NNP".
Ordinary NNP members now realised the party would be destroyed by its obsession to retain the premiership in the Western Cape.
President Thabo Mbeki had already demonstrated his preference for provincial ANC leader Ebrahim Rasool as premier.
"The NNP must realise the ANC has no good intentions with the NNP."
On Sunday, Mbeki told ANC supporters at Rustenburg not to vote for such a "silly party" as the NNP.
"Time is running out, and the NNP must not be surprised if it disappears from the political scene after April 14 2004 if it continues with its present approach," said Mulder.
