Jacob Zuma

In the news: Ongoing corruption investigations, elected as leader of the ANC.

2007 was a year of incredible highs and lows for Jacob Zuma. Zuma was charged with graft in 2006 before the case was thrown out on a technicality. In November 2007 an Appeals Court ruling cleared the way for evidence to be used against him in any future prosecution.

In December at an emotionally charged ANC national conference Zuma was elected leader of the party, defeating President Thabo Mbeki. His supporters dominated the top positions in the party. Two days later acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Mokotedi Mpshe said there was enough evidence to prosecute Zuma for corruption.
