SACP: Zuma decision 'logical'

Cape Town - The national prosecuting authority's (NPA) decision to charge former deputy president Jacob Zuma on two counts of corruption is logical and necessary, the SA Communist Party said on Monday.
"While we are obviously saddened at this turn of events, we believe that this step is now both logical and necessary.
"We trust that a court trial will shed light and bring finality to this matter," the SACP said in a statement.
In many respects the NPA's announcement was a step that should have been taken two years ago, when the former head of the NPA announced there was a prima facie case against Zuma, but no charges would be pressed against him.
"This earlier announcement placed comrade Zuma and the government and organisation in which he served in an untenable situation.
"It also created an impression of a political rather than a judicial agenda.
"Comrade Zuma has consistently said that he wanted his own day in court.
"We trust that the NPA will now move expeditiously and fairly, and that a credible judicial process takes place," the SACP said.
