Durban - An ANC local government candidate
died on Thursday morning just hours after winning his ward in Manguzi, northern
KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC said.
"We can confirm that our candidate
Dlanini Tembe died of natural causes in hospital this morning. He died after he
had won Ward 17," said African National Congress leader in the area Celiwe
Madlopha.
The ward was previously controlled by the
Inkatha Freedom Party, she said.
A by-election would be held after the
elections to find Tembe’s replacement.
KwaZulu-Natal Independent Electoral
Commission chief Mawethu Mosery was expected to update the media on the
province’s results at midday.
