ANC candidate dies after ward victory

2011-05-19 11:50

Durban - An ANC local government candidate died on Thursday morning just hours after winning his ward in Manguzi, northern KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC said.

"We can confirm that our candidate Dlanini Tembe died of natural causes in hospital this morning. He died after he had won Ward 17," said African National Congress leader in the area Celiwe Madlopha.

The ward was previously controlled by the Inkatha Freedom Party, she said.

A by-election would be held after the elections to find Tembe’s replacement.

KwaZulu-Natal Independent Electoral Commission chief Mawethu Mosery was expected to update the media on the province’s results at midday.

      Matt - 2011-05-19 12:28

I agree. He may be ANC, and I detest the ANC, but he was still a child of God, as we all are.

      ihtfcatkii - 2011-05-19 12:45

If you believe the ANC propaganda, he was more a child of God than any of the rest of us. Afterall, doesnt an ANC vote get you into heaven?

      tryanything - 2011-05-19 13:03

It Happens every day How many children freeze to death in the townships?????For want of a blanket how many people are murdered? At least he died of natural causes. Read the death notices why is this guy special??

      Spade - 2011-05-19 15:20

Death and taxes are the only things we can be sure of in life, as you all know. I cannot see why treating the dead the same as the living, suddenly becomes disrespectful. If someone was an idiot in life, then its OK to call him an idiot even after his death! The ANC used the "vote for us or you'll go to hell when you die" and "the ancestors will be angry if you don't vote for us" lines, and the dead candidate was an ANC member, therefore represented those notions. Perhaps the ANC must show the living more respect...

  • MaanDonkie - 2011-05-19 12:09

  • Owami - 2011-05-19 12:13

Are you listening to your comments? Someone is dead and you are making fun of his death?

      Kevin King - 2011-05-19 12:23

Hate breeds hate. A farmer gets dragged behind a bakkie and black readers comment that he deserved it. Hate speech is not good for our country!

      MaanDonkie - 2011-05-19 12:31

Qwami why dont you tell your brain dead youth leader the same!!! He was very symphathetic on Eugene's death....this is SA mate get use to it

      bevaneil - 2011-05-19 12:46

@ Kevin and MaanDonkie I feel 2 c the differnce between you and Juluis Malema...you sound exactly the same..then in future dont get angry when another farmer dies & people make negative comments as you are also down on Juluis's level..that is undeveloped brain talk.

      Kevin King - 2011-05-19 12:57

@ Bevaneil: Did you take standard 5 comprehension? Maybe then you'd understand what I'm getting at.

      bevaneil - 2011-05-19 13:10

@ Kevin...no your giving me 2 much credit actually did Grade 1 comprehension...your talking alot and not saying anything...in one breath your saying hate breeds hate & talking about the comments from blacks about the farmers, in the same breath your saying Hate speech is not gud 4 our country, please say one thing....or else your sentence structure is atrocious, I am assuming that you are a language graduate as you rated my comprehension Grade 5.

      bevaneil - 2011-05-19 13:12

@ Kevin even poor Voetsek is confused...do u c where I am coming from.

      thuthukag - 2011-05-19 13:33

@bevaneil, hahahaha, I thought I was seeing things. Contradictory statements. Key word, Contradictory. *Sigh* why even bother mate? South Africans cant even respect the dead, or wait for a trail to take place before screams for death penalty come about. Imagine we had a death penalty and they were the judges. Anyway, i digress. Let it go man. They are from a redundant school of thought, one which is not progressive in any way. Isn't it taxing on the body to be like this?

  • daboss247365 - 2011-05-19 12:13

Really sad to hear. Come on guys, some of the comments above are uncalled for completely. Unneccessary, stupid & divisionary. May he rest in peace.

      viewer111 - 2011-05-19 12:21

Agree: Especially in light of Colossians: [5] Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [6] On account of these the wrath of God is coming. [7] In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. [8] But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. (Colossians 3:5-7; Colossians 3:8 ESV)

  • Spade - 2011-05-19 12:17

This is a very strange story. "Natural causes" sounds a little vague - was he ill, or did he die of a sudden heart attack? If he was known to be gravely ill, or suffering from some life-threatening disease, I would have thought he should not have been considered as a candidate.

  • MacDaKnife - 2011-05-19 12:17

Iif he was already dying why stand as candidate. Natural causes!!!

  • spiderkzn - 2011-05-19 12:19

Rest in Peace Dlanini Tembe. My symbathy to his family loss

  • Joe - 2011-05-19 12:20

Forget politics for a second!!!!!!! A person has died and there is unhappyness in their house......May GOD be with them. Okay, after having said that , DA jou lekka ding

  • Susannomore - 2011-05-19 12:21

ANC or not - this is a person who deserves respect in death. Anyone of you that is passing negative comments, did he ever do anything against you to wish death on him? A person is a person, no matter what political party they subscribe to. Shame on you all. Condolenses to his family.

  • Vincent Aubrey Meiring - 2011-05-19 12:21

O "gosh" the ancestors must have been very upset for the people who listened to JZ.

      JKM - 2011-05-19 12:40

we are all gonna die, and you idiots are making the fun out of this situation will suffer most. one does not have to belong to any for him/her to live longer. how many have passed away on the same day as this guy except his death is been published on media. may his soul rest in peace. all those making the fun out of this, shame on you. you sound like you know how and when you are going to die.

  • WhoGivesAshi - 2011-05-19 12:21

    Another one bites the dust

  • RVQ - 2011-05-19 12:21

Sad truth, this is the racial divide the ANC has created to a point where people make fun of the dead...

      DeeAfrica - 2011-05-19 12:28

if your morals are determined on what the ANC does/says, then taht says a lot about the person you are doesnt it RVQ. Cant believe you lot!

      Matt - 2011-05-19 12:30

True, but "we" should be the better "person" here by offering condolences to his family. Otherwise "we" will be just like "them"

      grs911 - 2011-05-19 12:33

Perhaps your point is correct, but two wrongs don't make a right. Those making negative comments on this matter are as guilty of hypocrisy as are the ANC (among the ANC's never-ending list of other faults).

      RVQ - 2011-05-19 15:09

Agreed, I/We are becoming the monster we despise... all I can offer is my apologies...

  • Matsidiso - 2011-05-19 12:24

everything happens 4 a Reason.May his soul Rest in peace.

  • Maiavan - 2011-05-19 12:28

Does not matter who it is or what party he belonged to. A man has died and his family are in pain. All of you idiots sitting behind your PC screens, making a mockery of it - the world is round. RIP

  • Freddie - 2011-05-19 12:32

My condolences to the family. Why does the ANC not understand the word 'Candidate'? If Dlanini Tembe has been elected, he ceased to be a 'candidate' and was a Councilor. So Councilor Dlanini Tembe has died. On the same point, the ANC's failure to nominate mayoral 'candidates' until after the elections is simply illogical. A 'candidate' is someone offering himself for election. These 'candidates' that are nominated after the election are not candidates at all but appointments, as the electorate is not getting an opportunity to vote for or against them.

  • Jeremia - 2011-05-19 12:42

He died of "natural causes"?? Maybe a health checkup should be mandatory before you make yourself available as a candidate.

  • Psalm - 2011-05-19 12:43

Condolences to his family. To those vulgar enough to celebrate the man's death - remember, you will reap what sow.

  • Anonymous Thinker - 2011-05-19 12:44

Guess he's in heaven and his ancestors are happy.

  • Philip - 2011-05-19 12:56

some respect for the dead and his family perhaps? Corrupt politicians needn't cause us to lose our humanity eh?

  • Mannemarak - 2011-05-19 12:56

Maybe the ANC shouldn't really have won there? Neither the IFP, but the DA..?

  • WhySoAngry? - 2011-05-19 12:57

      tryanything - 2011-05-19 13:13

At news 24 there is a monkey in a box with a roulette wheel My comments also get chopped for no reason. It was just where the marble landed..

      thuthukag - 2011-05-19 13:41

To me it seems they remove any rational comment that aims to build as opposed to polarise. Anyone who places sensible commments that don't stir tensions willknow what Im talking about. Hence why you see what remains. They will probably delete this one too.

  • moodley - 2011-05-19 12:57

Japan suffers an earthquake. There are comments about them desrving it! Joost falls ill. There are comments about him deserving it! Now Tembe dies. U hear these comments again!! Fortunately, there is a higher judge that will determine who is truly evil here!! Judge not lest ye be judged!

  • WhySoAngry? - 2011-05-19 12:57

Lol, this is very funny. how does a story about a dead man all of the sudden transform into racism comments. I think this is the only platform were cowards exchange verbal blows....ride on brothers&sisters.

  • smahlaba - 2011-05-19 13:40

The comments on this page are not welcome. You people are sick. It just shows how much value is given to a black life.

  • Collen - 2011-05-19 13:43

May Dlanini Tembe's soul rest in peace. Condolences to family and friends. These racist comments just shows one how this country's opressors of man have lived a legacy of perpetrating the poisnous young snakes that were socialised into killing another human being because of a different skin colour!!! I wonder what it is that makes you a happy South African, probably it is to see this country dominated by their own people! *U won'y get that until Jesus comes!*

  • Ernestina Nkooe - 2011-05-19 13:47
