Ignore upstarts, ANC tells Mandela Bay

2011-05-05 17:06

Port Elizabeth - The ANC has called on Nelson Mandela Bay residents to ignore "political upstarts" like the DA and the Cope in the May 18 local government election, claiming the ruling party has worked "around the clock" for its people in the metro in the past five years.

"Given our positive service delivery record in this and many other municipalities, we call on the people the Eastern Cape, especially the Nelson Mandela Bay metro to ignore these organisations that have no interest in working with them to create better communities," the party's spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, said at a press conference in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

"The people of Cape Town and the Western Cape, who trusted these Johnny-come lately [sic], regret ever wasting their votes by voting for them."

Qoboshiyane claimed the DA still thought black people in townships and rural villages "deserve open toilets".

"Unfortunately these [people] still think black people in our townships and rural villages deserve to have open toilets, have electricity in shacks and not in decent homes, while communities in Cape Town get brand new bicycle lanes built by the municipality."

Qoboshiyane also took potshots at Cope member Smuts Ngonyama, who when he was an ANC member, once said he had "not joined the struggle to be poor".

"We have also noted he of the 'I did not join the struggle to be poor fame' Smuts Ngonyama of Cope also wants you to trust him with your development.

"We call on our people not to respond to these empty charms as they will not lead to any development."

ANC back on the toilet ?

      Simpiwe Cele - 2011-05-07 13:27

There are 3 types of political parties. 1. Parties that MAKE IT HAPPEN ( DA ) 2. Parties that WATCH IT HAPPEN ( COPE ) 3. And parties that ask WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED ( ANC ) New ANC is useless unable to govern and manage , I hope the DA really teaches them a strong lesson , what a proper embarrassment that will be....but then when u deliver nothing add no value what do you expect. Change needed brother and sisters Now , Viva change.

      Francois - 2011-05-07 13:51

For somebody that asks people to ignore the DS, the ANC realy gives them a lot of attention. Grumpy, what is that smell? Irony?

      John - 2011-12-22 16:57

ANC are guilty of ignorance, incompetence, negligence, abortion, murder, and Genocide. Look at nationalization: The single most important factor about " nationalization " is: It has not succeeded in '100' countries over '100' years. The countries which have tried it have FAILED, and are moving AWAY from " nationalization ". Russia, China, India, Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, etc, etc. ALL FAILED. Not only did the TOTAL CONTROL OF THE ECONOMY fail, but the TOTAL CONTROL OF THE PEOPLE also failed. Malema, Cosatu, ANC do not have any ace, or advantage of any kind that makes it possible for nationalization to succeed in South Africa. There are comparable samples of same populations trying TOTAL CONTROL and FREEDOM ECONOMICS: Germany, freedom success, East Germany, nationalization failure. South Korea, freedom success, North Korea, nationalization failure. Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, freedom success, China, nationalization failure. Western Europe, freedom success, Eastern Europe, nationalization failure. Malema, Cosatu, ANC are guilty of ignorance, incompetence, negligence, abortion, murder, and Genocide.

      Where u from! Overseas.go back!

      Cynical Sci - 2011-05-06 17:09

@Zeus: While I do think Stephan's isn't the cutting edge of wit, I'm more intrigued by your response and argument. It's one I've seen pop up a few times. Why should people go back to countries of their ancestors? Really, why? Is it just easier to understand things? Like Indians come from India etc. Should African-Americans go back to Africa? Really, I'm not trying to knock you, I would just like to understand. PS paleoanthropology and human movement is an interesting and revealing field of study.

  • michaelx - 2011-05-05 17:38

YES THE ANC HAVE WORKED AROUND THE CLOCK-BUT WHAT THEY NEGLECT TO SAY IS-"FILLING OUR OWN POCKETS,STEALING STEALING STEALING THE PEOPLES MONEY!!"

      Zeus - 2011-05-05 17:43

So your solution is to get into power and steal the money back?

      Derek - 2011-05-05 17:49

@Zeus No. But rather to use it to provide services to those who still use the bucket system and are currently suffering under the ANC's rule. As it was intended for.

      Sho Fukamachi - 2011-05-05 17:51

@Zues: F**** off. The DA actually got 100% of the budget allocation for the Western Cape because they can prove where the money goes to. Your ANC friend on the other hand can't say the same, as we all know the money disappears into their pockets. Get yourself a rock, crawl under it, and stay there you stupid fool.

      Cynical Sci - 2011-05-06 17:12

@Zeus: So are you admitting they've been stealing?

      Liberale - 2011-05-17 20:49

Baha cynical, got zeus there with his pants down on an open toilet!!!!!

  • Thandiwe83 - 2011-05-05 17:52

Fewer flushing toilets in eastern cape than the western cape.

  • Fry - 2011-05-05 17:57

Whatever, I live in this area....I know this is a load of BULLSH*T

  • Darkwing Duck - 2011-05-05 18:05

DA: ANC has squandered 64 Million upgrading Zuma's personal estate! ANC: Open Toilets!! DA: ANC has made Nelson Mandela Bay bankrupt! ANC: Open Toilets! DA: ANC has diverted over 1 billion to private hospital upgrade ANC: Open Toilets! You have to wonder when the ANC can only find one stick to beat the DA for the hundreds of new charges we find against them every month! I have no doubt if there was ANY kind of real dirt against the DA, they would not sound half as much like the stuck record they are. Face it ANC, you got nothing on the score board! DA 999 ANC 1

  • maseratifitt - 2011-05-05 18:30

Ignore ANC deadbeats. Useless bunch of thieves.

  • Anthony - 2011-05-05 18:48

Well it seems the ANC has something in common with open toilets, when they open their mouths guess what happens?

  • Anthony - 2011-05-05 19:10

@Zeus...go back overseas you say? You really want to dredge up that old debate, if you are not a bushman, you ain't from around these parts neither chum.

  • Ashton Fourie - 2011-05-05 19:11

The challenge that faces us, when we read articles like this one, is not to point out the obvious fallacies. The challenge is to think of some strategy by which we can educate our country's voters to be able to make well informed voting decisions. For a regular reader of various news sources, looking through these statements and laughing at them is easy. However, for the average voter, it seems that these statements succeed in grabbing their emotions - and with that, their vote.

  • John - 2011-05-05 19:17

Ignore upstarts? That would mean all ANC politicians for starters.

      Darkwing Duck - 2011-05-05 19:44

I think he meant we should ignore "start ups". The ANC has been sleeping on the starting line for 17yrs and are afraid that if any other party starts up in their territory and actually shows results they will be exposed for what they are.

  • Ogre - 2011-05-06 00:31

Mlibo Qoboshiyane, I cannot remember giving you the right to comment on my behalf as WC resident and voter, and then lying. we definitely did not waste our votes and your despiration tactics confirm that. Yes, the courts did rule against the DA in a situation that should have been handled better and has given you the only valid point to critisize the DA on. The loss for the affected people is that the court stated that only 1 toilet needs to be built for every 5 houses. So did the case the ANC register and won really benifit the residents? Regarding the "positive service delivery" of the ANC, do you think the people protesting at the councils suddenly had an urge to start doing aerobics en masse and in public? I think not. In the case of having electricity in decent homes, talk to Tokyo, He is the Minister of Human Settlements, not the DA. In fact the DA council in CT are attempting to buy low cost houses from FNB to assist. This is over and above their mandate. The statement about Smuts not joining the struggle to be poor actually reflects the influence the ANC had on him. I mean he was a born and bred ANC cadre. He was only following the exaple of his peers as he was feeling left out, and he was getting much more than the scraps thrown to the voters. So be careful what you say, you might be describing your own party.

  • Crazy Ivan - 2011-05-06 01:36

Well at least an open toilet is better than Mandela Bays 'bucket system'!! Positive service delivery yea right!

  • Blue - 2011-05-06 05:53

PLEASE go and read the "Letter to the President" article, written by Paddy Hartdegen, who writes a regular column for Property24.com...this letter is hidden away in the bottom of the News.24 home page. VERY INTERESTING READING - WELL DONE PADDY!!

  • HardHitter - 2011-05-06 07:13

Records - ya, record are usually obtained and managed at the expense of the weak. Like the springboks beating Italy 100 -0, what does it mean, nothing. So ya, the ANC's positive record, yes, 1 is a record, but 1 out of 10, means nothing.

  • jwill - 2011-05-06 07:51

Something that I find very very interesting: The ANC is forever harping on the point that they value their heritage and would fight for it. Well, if so, why is the Eastern Cape (as the cradle of Xhosa heritage) a complete mess? The moment that Apartheid ended, the ANC completely forgot about the Eastern Cape......

  • George_III - 2011-05-06 08:31

So the image this joker has just placed in my mind is that of an ANC cadre sitting on an an open toilet with clenched fist crying out: Amandla!

  • Alibaba - 2011-05-06 09:39

So this Mlibo Qoboshiyane put away his Bible he has been reading for the last 7 days and rode up in his donkey cart from his shack in the squatter camp he lives in wearing his old t-shirt and faded jeans with his toes sticking out of his shoes to take pot shots at the "Evil" Smuts Ngonyama (whom I incidentaly think is also a tool)for that reckless selfish comment about "not joining the struggle to remain poor". Or should it read differently? :-)

  • Sanity - 2011-05-06 09:48

At least open toilets were provided by the DA. The anc has provided no toilets at all. Even on this day & age ppl still relieve themselves in tins/buckets provided by the anc govmnt. Its proven that the anc have nothing more to say except to raise one issue of open toilets. Theirs is gross corruption, poor health conditions in hospitals, dyfunctional civil service, disintergrating infrastructure, dirty streets, poor quality rdp housing, trees & mud houses used to conduct lessons, tender irregularities, luxury cars of politicians bought using tax payers' money, etc etc...

  • sainsaudi - 2011-05-06 10:40

Charms is the right word. Thge ANC cream, the rich and the thick, have charmed the insides of their pockets very well indeed, They have ensured service delivery right into their own pockets. They have served themselves very well. Now, let's turn to a party that really delivers and really cares for the people. Incidently, Qoboshiyane's statement is very much "Johnny-come-lately"!Instead of factualising the delivery progress of the ANC,which he can't because there has been very little, he resorts to name-calling and skinnering.Just another kakistocrat trying to safeguard his place in the kakistocracy.

  • Kooven - 2011-05-06 11:51

Lol.. Really, they combined the 'toilet incident' and the 'bicycle lane' into 1 attack for their campaign??? Now that is the bottom of the freaking barrel! I mean, anybody with more than 2 brain cells know they bull sh*tting the people of Mandela Bay.. How do you respect a party that does that?
