Mpumalanga MEC thanks law enforcement
Mbombela - The Mpumalanga department of safety and security on Monday thanked law enforcement agencies for ensuring a safe election.
The participation of the SA National Defence Force and the SA Police Service helped ensure that the elections in Mpumalanga were free and fair, spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said in a statement.
"We saw in Ermelo that... the people who did not want to vote decided to play games instead of intimidating the majority of people who wanted to vote," said MEC Vusi Shongwe.
He said service delivery protests in the area in February had helped law enforcement to prepare for the elections.
Shongwe thanked the police, SANDF, the Independent Electoral Commission, communities and political parties for their efforts in ensuring a free and fair election.
