380 Suspects netted in operation

KWAZULU-NATAL police worked around the clock tracing suspects involved in crime under the umbrella of Operation Paseka. During operations, which commenced on 26 March and ended on 2 April, a total of 380 suspects were arrested for various crimes such as assault, selling of liquor without a licence, sexual assault, shoplifting, illegal railway crossing, drinking in public, carjacking, murder and other crimes.

A total of 81 suspects were arrested for possession of dagga while 81 were arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating substance. Police also recovered three cellphones, three motor vehicles, DVD player, CDs, 15 live rounds of ammunition, 10 knives, unlicensed firearm, magazine and other recoveries.

Large quantity of drugs and liquor were also seized by police. These operations will continue across the KwaZulu-Natal. The suspects appeared in the various magistrates’ courts across the province.

“The abuse of alcohol has the potential to lead to more crimes being committed. We will be out in full force and we will not tolerate any criminality committed in our province,” said KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni. - Supplied.
