FORD’S new B-Max represents the automaker’s vision for a premium compact multi-activity vehicle (MAV).

The new B-Max is available in three derivitives - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium - with a single engine choice – 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol.

All the B-Max versions are powered by Ford’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine tuned to two different outputs. Fitted to the entry-level Ambiente, it produces 74kW, while in the mid-range Trend and Titanium it delivers 92kW. Both versions have a peak torque of 170Nm.

Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 4.9 litres/100km with emissions of 114 g/km for the 92kW versions.

The entry-level Ambiente has steel rims, power windows (front and rear with one-touch operation), power steering, manual air con with pollen filter and immobiliser is fitted.

The Trend derivative adds a Thatcham anti-theft alarm, Ford’s MyKey functionality, parking sensors, a secondary 12-volt power socket, trip computer, Eco-Mode, eight-speaker audio linked to a 4.2” TFT colour screen and cruise control.

Externally, the Trend is distinguished by the addition of 15” alloy rims, front fog lights and colour-coded elements.

The Titanium has a power start button, leather trim, heatable front seats (with lumbar support and built-in armrests), auto climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, auto-dimming rear view mirror, LEDs, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, parking sensors and sunroof.

The B-Max has 60/40 split rear seats that can be folded flat . The front passenger seat can also be folded.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain and driver knee), ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, electronic stability programme, hill assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The B-Max is sold with a four-year or 120 000km warranty, four-year or 60 000km service plan, three-year/unlimited km roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty. Service intervals are 20 000km. - Wheels24
