A NEW driving range is to open at Amanzimtoti Golf Club on Friday.

“Adverse weather conditions last weekend complicated construction on the site, but everybody will be able to hit balls on opening day,” said co-owner of the range, Nico Vogel.

Vogel and his brother, Jonny bought the Pro Shop a year ago and construction of the driving range started in April.

“We bought the nets from Johannesburg and these are the real deal. The nets are nine metres tall and the driving range distance is 200 metres. Approximately 26 people can practice their driving skills at any given time. We are also planting more grass, which will allow more players at a later stage,” Vogel said.

Flood lights allow for play until 8pm. This Saturday from 8am to 10am children, up to the age of 11, play for free with their own golf clubs. Professional coach, David Graham, club champion, Mark Cowie and former club champion, Calvin van Rensburg will assist them on Friday, at no cost.

The team is keen on the development of the sport and school teams will be offered special rates at the range. Regular players will also qualify for discount on contract.

Anyone wanting to advertise at the range must contact the Pro Shop on 031 902 4144
