KINGSBURGH Child and Family Welfare Society recently held a training programme on gender sensitivity and domestic violence.

The programme is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence and to empower victims in communities.

“The programme focused on providing information on the causes of domestic violence, sensitise communities to gender issues and to the problems and difficulties experienced by women or men who have been abused, encourage communities to work together to take action and to develop understanding and empathy for women or men who have been abused,” said welfare senior social worker, Sandra Govender.

“The programme was sponsored by AECI. We had mostly youth attending and it felt like we empowered the young people. They really engaged with us and were so positive about bringing change about domestic violence and getting people who are victims to speak out.”
