Ridiculous level of incompetence

2015-06-03 06:00

MY husband died in April 2014.

Now a year later I am still struggling with insurance policies. I spent two-and-a-half hours at the bank last week where my insurance policy is ceded. It took me a year to trace at which branch it was held. The bank cannot find it. They said it has gone to Durban. When I phoned a week later I was told they still have not found it.

Another policy involved selling shares. This took 41 e-mails. Eventually, after opening a late estate account, I managed to sell them. Then when I wanted to get the money from the bank, I was told I have to open a cheque account which would cost R150. I refused. Eventually I was told I could get a bank cheque and I must close the account. Three cheques were made out before they got it right, only to be told I cannot cash it until the next day. This little incident took over two hours to do.

They did offer to deposit it in my other bank account the next day after I threw all my toys out of the cot.

To change my husband’s cellphone to my name took seven months and numerous e-mails.

Why is there such incompetence?

Nobody seems to care.
