AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club runners can enjoy a bring and braai with a spring theme on Wednesday. All members should wear bright colours with some flowers. The club will run the time trial in reverse with a “predict your time”.

With spring in the air and the improved weather and light conditions, many runners are back on the road. If you are looking for a Comrades training programme, coach Lindsay Perry’s programme can be downloaded from the Comrades website.

Runners who train in the early morning are encouraged to run in a group for safety. Athletes are reminded that the Comrades entries opened on 1 September and early bird entries close at the end of September.

A large group of Toti AC members ran the Mandela Marathon on Sunday. Most of the athletes were housed at Midmar and in the Howick area. There was a choice of a triathlon mountain bike race, trail run or to run the 42km, 21km or a 10km. Conditions for the run were tough with a cool start, but as the day progressed the weather got hot and sticky. The race ended at the Nelson Mandela capture site. The winning man’s time for the marathon was 2:28 and the women’s was 2:53.

Well done to all the athletes who took part in the Bluff Meat run also on Sunday.

Members are reminded that the Sapphire Coast Marathon, hosted by Toti AC, takes place on 18 October. The Helpers Run takes place on 10 October. Members are asked to help with marshalling, race registration, making tea and coffee and assist at the finish. Give your name to Martyn or Des.

The road racing fixtures for September: SAPS 13 September 21.1km club champs, 1000 Capital Classic 18 September, Township to Township 27 September.

Important club dates: 18 October - Sapphire Coast Marathon, 28 October, club AGM at Lords and Legends and 21 November club prize giving.

Nomination forms for the AGM are available from the club house. Please nominate your new committee members for 2016. - Supplied.
