SAPS asks for vigilance

2015-06-03 06:00

AMANZIMTOTI SAPS are asking the community to be extra vigilant to avoid becoming victims of opportunistic crimes.

“Keep in mind as we enter winter, more vagrants are entering the area because of our warmer climate. Crime statistics show that opportunistic crime escalates during this period,” Captain Charlene van der Spuy said.

Housebreakings, theft out of motor vehicles and general theft are among the crimes that increase during at this time.

“Try to prevent becoming a victim by not leaving anything of value in your vehicle, lock garages, close your windows and secure your property,” van der Spuy said.

She called on the public to report any suspicious activity in their area to SAPS. “In this way, SAPS can address certain issues in certain areas. The reporting of crime is also imperative to identify hot spots and place officers in the area.”
