Skenk bloed, bou die erfenis

LANGER en warmer dae, die reuk van blomme en die heerlike geur van ‘n braai wat goed onderweg is. Vir baie is dit wat September met hom meebring.

Dit is ook die maand waartydens Suid-Afrikaners erkenning gee aan hulle verenigende erfenis en die vreugde om in ‘n land met soveel diversiteit te leef. As jy jou tradisionele kleredrag ter herdenking van Erfenisdag op 24 September aantrek, vra die Suid-Afrikanse Nasonale Bloeddiens (SANBS) jou om die ander ding te vier wat ons gemeen het – ons nasie se bloed.

Die SANBS en sy lojale skenkers doel in te kollekteer 3 000 eenhede van die lewegewende bloed elke dag om moeders wat kraam, slagoffers van ongelukke, kanker- oorlewendes en duisende ander wat bloed-oortappings nodig het, by te staan.

“Dit is ‘n buitengewone gedagte dat hierdie waardevolle vog wat deur my are vloei presies dit is wat jy dalk nodig mag hê, “ sê Vanessa Raju, SANBS se kommunikasie-bestuurder.

Sy verduidelik dat hoewel die seisoene deur die jaar verander, die aanvraag vir bloed en sy verskillende produkte ‘n prioriteit bly - die bloeddiens moet altyd voorrade stabiel hou.

“Of jou voorkeur ’n koeldrank of ‘n koue bier is, of ‘n geroosterde botterskorsie eerder as ‘n behoorlike gaar boerewors, behoort hierdie Erfenismaand ons te help om ons kosbare hulpbron, ons nasie se bloedvoorraad, te handhaaf,” sê Raju.
