ONE of Amanzimtoti’s hidden gems is hairdresser Renata Reimeringer Visser.

The owner of Moden Wave Salon in Athlone Park, Renata won the L’oreal colour trophy six years ago and is now Loreal’s SA ambassador.

Last year she did the spring-summer collection for L’oreal and will do it again this year when the 2015/2016 collection is released in Cape Town. Visser also regularly conducts L’oreal seminars and lectures internationally. At the cutting edge of the industry, she rubs shoulders with top international hairstylists and brings the latest trends to SA and Amanzimtoti.

Visser comes from a long line of hairdressers and her daughter Brigitte Kent is following in her footsteps. Kent is the ninth hairdresser in the family and has a salon in Franschhoek, the HQ for L’oreal.

A year and a half ago, L’oreal treated mom and daughter on a trip to the south of France, where they were spoilt by the Kérastase branch.

Among their other achievements Visser and Kent Brigitte were involved internationally with “Trend Vision” in Berlin and Kent came fifth.

“Over 40 countries took part. It was the first time South Africa was invited and not much was known about requirements,” Visser’s sister Aneska Dupont recalled.

Visser has been in the industry for the past 36 years. She did her training with Kevin Burton of Salon Shick in Durban and bought the salon in Athlone Park 20 years ago with her husband Tommy, who also manages the business.

“Renate’s passion is teaching and she has always taught apprentices and passed on her knowledge,” he says. From stepping into the salon, it is clear Visser’s other passion is art, something she says she shares with the rest of her talented hairdressing family. On special days like Easter and Christmas Visser does a display in the salon foyer
