MOTHERS were spoilt to a special treat at Galleria Mall on Sunday when the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and vocalists Alaska Hilton, Fezo Mayesa and Keely Crocker performed in a Motherand#039;s Day concert in the Mug and Bean court.

The philharmonic performed a programme of popular classics, which included a selection of old and new favourites like Hello Dolly, New York New York and Cabare

“Regarded as Africaand#039;s premier orchestra, the orchestra consists of 81 full-time professional musicians who come from more than 20 countries. The orchestra has, over the past 30 years, earned a reputation of excellence and innovation among South African orchestras,” said master of ceremonies Pierre Venter.

The concert was also a Galleria and Amanzimtoti Fever fundraiser for the Talent Africa competitors who qualified to compete internationally, and Galleria Mall donated a lump sum towards their costs to represent South Africa internationally.

Alaska and Keely will be among the vocalists, singers, models and artists performing in Talent America in New York this year.

It is the aim of Talent Africa to give artists with the relevant talent the best opportunity to be exposed to all that the entertainment world can offer, on both a national and international level. In a similar way, the KZN Philharmonic comprehensive education and community engagement programmes have, over the years, proved how an early interest in music can lead to the desire to learn to play an instrument.

The aim is to inspire pupils to respect the discipline and work hard at their chosen instrument in order to conquer their musical goals. This is achieved by the professional musicians of the orchestra transferring their skills, through training, to the future generation of professional musicians in this country.

Supporting the local talent, James Ellis sponsored the sound system and Mimoand#039;s Galleria spoilt mothers to a free cappuccino
