AMANZIMTOTI Conservancy member Corinne Winson is calling on the public to refrain from “having fun” by digging a channel on the beach to allow the Manzimtoti River to run into the sea. Winson managed to intervene in two attempts on Sunday morning.

“The diggers most probably have no idea of the sheer power of water that would be released, especially when it is as full as it is at the moment. It is sure to go soon anyway, but it should be a natural breach. We don’t want holidaymakers being washed out on paddle boats,” she
cautioned.

She added there was some digging overnight or in the early dark hours of Monday morning as well, but they were unable to find the person responsible.
