Attacks on homes alarming

2017-03-08 06:02

THE continuous robberies and home invasions in Westville are cause for concern. The criminals obviously are not afraid of the law. Their attacks on residents are alarming. It must never reach a stage where heartless individuals are allowed to hold an entire community to ransom.

These criminals attack homes with impunity, knowing they are protected by the law. They are in most cases armed and dangerous, playing on the fear of the innocent. Although police visibility and patrols were increased, together with the installation of a 24-hour mobile CCTV, the robberies continue.

The safety and security of people are the responsibility of the government. If communities are being targeted constantly then these communities must be reimbursed for their goods stolen and also given tax breaks. Citizens, in consultation with the police, need to become more proactive in keeping their areas safe.

At the same time, regulations pertaining to the installation of boom gates at access points need to be relaxed.

Any security measure that acts as a deterrent to distract criminals must be welcomed.

One of the militant solutions is for the people of Westville to protect themselves, as this reign of terror by a few thugs must be broken at all costs.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and now is the time to act.
