THE Upper South Coast Art Association (USCAA) introduced new artists to the association at a cocktail party last Tuesday evening at the Art Gallery on Kingsway. The exhibition was well supported by the community eager to buy.

“I have been doing art for as long as I can remember and am mostly inspired by nature. I started with water colours and now use mostly acrylics.

“I had ceramic pots in my house and thought it would look lovely with orchids, so I took a photograph and painted them,” Elsabe Loots said.

Marie Kachelhoffer started painting in 1998.

“I really love vibrant colours and use acrylics and mixed media. I am fascinated by nature and love painting something colourful I see. The theme for my painting is ‘love birds’ and I thought it would fit beautifully into one’s bedroom,” Kachelhoffer said.

Hildegaard van Rensburg also paints bright and colourful and full of energy.

“I use mostly acrylics or mixed media,” she stated.

“I am a positive person and love bright colours. Free movement and the scents of Africa, inspires me. I use water colours, charcoal, oil and acrylics. I learnt so much from my colleagues at Upper South Coast Art Association, everyone is so enthusiastic. It is wonderful to see so many local artists not only being able to showcase their art, but also learn from other artists.

“In small towns artists seldom have a place where they can showcase their art and I am thankful for the community’s support,” Magda van der Merwe said.
