City to host two Bafana matches

2015-11-25 06:23

ETHEKWINI will host two qualifying matches for Bafana Bafana following the approval of the Executive Committee for the city to partner with the South African Football Association (Safa).
The first Fifa World Cup 2018 Qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Angola was played on 17 November.
The Afcon 2017 Qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Cameroon will be played on 29 March, 2016. Both matches will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The 2018 Fifa World Cup is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July, 2018. The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Gabon.
The cost of both matches has been budgeted for with eThekwini contributing a hosting fee of R2.9 million towards stadium-related costs for each match. On the basis of 80/20% ticket sales split in favour of council, it is projected that R2 million will be recovered for both matches therefore reducing the city’s contribution.
There are also other positive spinoffs for the city as football has a significant impact. Benefits include branding opportunities on both television and radio, naming rights in hosting the games as well as ticket sales which include hospitality ticket sales. It is expected that the games will attract between 25 000 and 30 000 fans each. The hosting of the games will also further strengthen eThekwini’s reputation as a destination of choice to host major sporting events. - Supplied.
