COMBATCOACHING.COM recently hosted their first workshop for coaches, attended by 30 people, including teachers, and rugby, cricket, waterpolo, gymnastic, kickboxing, personal trainers and MMA coaches.

“The community and coaches do not realise the important role they have to play. I see my role as a mentor, it is not just about being a fighting coach, but being a life coach,” coach Morné Swanepoel said.

He said there is a lack of courses for coaches.

“There is no course that you can attend, specifically for coaches and most attend a physical training course.”

The Combatcoaching course was put together by coach Swanepoel and included how to motivate players, inspire coaches and take their coaching skills to the next level.

Last week, Team MMA fighter, Wesley Hawkey won his fight against Sibusiso Mdoko from Cape Town by knocking him out in the first round.

Swanepoel and Hawkey are now preparing for Hawkey’s first international fight, which will be against the Wales Commonwealth Boxing and MMA champion, Azi Thomas on 9 December at Carnaval City, Johannesburg. Combatcoaching’s Team MMA fighter, Damsheel Moodley will also compete.

Swanepoel recently returned from Bethlehem in the Free State where he conducted an MMA and Brazillian Juijitsu seminar with an affiliated gym.

On 3 and 4 December he will be presenting a seminar in Brazillian Juijitsu in Nelspruit with his personal coach, Roberto Atalla from Brazil.

The Brazilian JiuJitsu (BJJ) International gradings for adults and children were recently held at CombatCoaching.com

The gradings were conducted by Swanepoel, the head coach for the event. He is a certified International BJJ Black Belt and instructor and noted as one of the top Black Belts in the world today.

Swanepoel heads the International BJJ Association - Rio Grappling Club - in South Africa.

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
