Events for breast cancer awareness

OCTOBER is Breast Cancer Month and Hospice and its volunteers are doing whatever it takes to create awareness about cancer.

“Early detection is very important. People need to look after their health and take care of themselves,” Khanya Hospice CEO, Neil McDonald said.

10 October is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. This day is to draw the attention to the free nursing care and work that Hospices around the world are doing around and the services they offer.

12 to 14 October, Rotary Family Health Days. The Rotary Family Health Days provide comprehensive free health care and screening services to citizens at selected sites. The Amanzimtoti health days are hosted at the Zimbokweni Community Hall, Sompukane Road, near Charles James Hospital.

15 October, Women’s Tea and Cancer drive at 10am. This will be held in Umzinto at 10am, with Al Ansaar Cancer support group from Overport. For further information contact Bilkish Vawda on 039 569 0971.

20 October, Nikki Linnebank from Shot Brew Bistro hosts a high tea for Hospice. Tickets are R80 and include treats, and ticket holders will be entered into a R20 lucky draw for Khanya Hospice, the prize is a new Toyota Etios. Drinks not included. RSVP: Yvonne by 12 October on

22 October, Shereen Paul from Scottburgh hosts a dinner dance at the Scottburgh Town Hall. There will be great entertainment, good food and many prizes, especially for the best dressed couple. Hospice can be contacted on 039 973 1783 or 083 597 8985 and Paul can be contacted on 074 260 4102.
