House robbery in St Winnifreds

2017-03-08 06:00

A CASE of house robbery is being investigated by Amanzimtoti detectives following an incident on Monday morning, February 27 at around 11.30 am.

“Five suspects entered the premises with a white Audi. They opened the front gate to the driveway and drove in.

“The suspects then entered the house. They found the domestic worker busy upstairs and pointed a firearm at her.

“They then told her to lie down on the floor,” said SAPS PRO Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

The suspects then reportedly ransacked the main bedroom and broke open a small safe inside a clothing cupboard.

“As the suspects went to inspect the bedrooms in the house, the domestic worker managed to run to the bathroom and locked herself in.

A tenant who stays in an outside room heard the noise and investigated.

“She saw the suspects ransacking the house through a window.

The tenant subsequently shouted to the gardener, who was busy at the back of the house and then locked herself in her room with her grandchild,” Van der Spuy said.

“The gardener reacted by running to the front of the house.

He saw one suspect outside, but another one came from inside the house and pointed a firearm at him.

The gardener managed to escape and ran out of the front gate to the neighbour’s house. During this time there was another grey vehicle parked outside in the street,” she added.

The suspects then fled the scene and there were no signs of forced entry.

Items taken were a television set, two computers, various pieces of jewellery items and men’s watches. — Supplied.
