A JOINT operation during the early morning hours of 27 January between members of Amanzimtoti SAPS and armed response unit CCPO lead to the arrest of a suspected thief.

“During observation duties, a suspect was noticed carrying a suspicious backpack at the Seadoone off-ramp. Under investigation, the suspect could not give a valid explanation regarding to the items found in the backpack and the suspect was then arrested and charged with being in possession of stolen property,” said Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

Van der Spuy said with further investigation the suspect was linked to two theft out of motor vehicle cases which was reported during the course of the night and the property identified by the owners.

The suspect appeared in the Amanzimtoti court on 28 January. The case was remanded to 4 February.
