ON Tuesday 15 March at 6pm, Netcare 911 paramedics from Amanzimtoti responded to a call for a drowning on Illovo beach neat the ATKV holiday resort.
Reports from the scene indicate that a husband and wife went swimming when they landed in a rip current.

“The husband battled to keep his wife above water and in the process aspirated water into his lungs. The advanced life support paramedic and his team arrived at the scene and found the husband, a 34-year-old man, to be in a serious condition, the wife, although exhausted, was in a stable condition,” said Chris Botha, media liaison officer - Netcare 911.

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene before transporting him to hospital. - Supplied.
