PICK N PAY Galleria officially opened its doors on Thursday, 17 November.

The public celebrated this special day with owners Craig and Monika Dunnington.

Store owner Craig Dunnington said: “This journey started two-and-a-half years ago when I went to see Galleria general manager Kurt Hoggan. I told him I want to have a store in his mall. Kurt said he did not have space and I said: ‘Let me show you’ - and the rest is history.”

Dunnington thanked everybody who assisted with setting up the store. “Special thanks to my brilliant team, Joey, Berashnee, Ronald, Felicia, Sharnae, Devon and Cameron for all the late nights and full commitment to getting the store ready for opening day. Fresh food team Mthu, Maxwell, Sharmaine made us all proud.”

Chris Reed, Pick n Pay director commended Dunnington when he introduced the new generation of PNP stores.

“We waited 21 years for you [Dunnington] to have a supermarket. Anyone can have a store in a good location, but you did it in a location that was not ideal.”

“Craig and Monika, you now have the Rolls Royce of Pick n Pay franchises. If ever a family deserved it, you do. Craig, you’ll spin a few fenders, but look good while you are doing it. When people are happy, you don’t get emails, so I hope I never see Craig until after Christmas,” Reed said.

The master of ceremonies Nolan Logan said it had been a busy week with this store being the eighth corporate store opening in KwaZulu-Natal.

Pick n Pay KwaZulu-Natal general manager, Anil Gopichund, said with the most number of new stores, KwaZulu-Natal is now on the map.

“Thank you for making us so proud and for putting together this new store,” Gopichund added.

Franchise HOD, Robert Speranza said: “Today there are three or four new Pick n Pay stores opening throughout the country. This Galleria store is the first franchise store in an executive centre, normally corporate gets the first bite. I know you will make us so proud.”

The Hyena Blues gave a special opening performance and with the ribbon cut, excited customers started streaming through the doors.
