ON Thursday Netcare 911 paramedics once again joined 15 Squadron for a training session. The Netcare 911 rescue specialist took six staff members to the Prospecton military base at 8am, where they were debriefed about safety around helicopter and hoisting procedures.

“After the pilot and engineer were satisfied the staff were competent, they flew to Umhlanga Hospital in an Augusta 109. The medics were hoisted to the ground, one at a time, and then hoisted back up to the helicopter before flying back to the military base,” said Chris Botha, Netcare 911 media liaison officer.

Botha said these training sessions are done regularly to ensure the pilots, engineers and the rescue paramedics are always operationally ready for any emergency they might be faced with.
