A QUICK-THINKING resident assisted in the arrest of a robber after his home was broken into last week.

According to Amanzimtoti SAPS spokesperson Charlene van der Spuy the resident of Impala Park awoke at about 6pm on Wednesday 14 September after he heard a noise at his front door.

“When he went to check, the suspect was already inside his house armed with a knife,” said Van der Spuy.

The armed suspect had gained entry by forcing the front door open.

When the resident saw the suspect reach for his knife, he ran into one of his rooms and locked himself in.

“He only came out after the suspect had left. He then called his armed response unit to alert them.

“On their arrival he gave them a description of the suspect. The robber was traced by members of CCPO, ET, Chubb and Metro Police and apprehended in Sugar Road next to the R603,” said Van der Spuy.

The man had stolen a flat screen TV, a hard drive and cellphone.

All the stolen items was recovered and suspect was handed to the Amanzimtoti SAPS. Police confirmed that the robber had a knife and screwdriver in his possession.

The resident also identified the suspect as the same robber who was on his premises the previous day around the same time trying to gain entry at the back door, but he did not succeed.

The management of Amanzimtoti SAPS applauds these members for their quick response in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen property.

Police are investigating.
