Scale of justice is not always level

2016-01-13 06:00

“HEY white people, don’t call them dumb. Keep your opinions or tweets for yourself.”

This is what the presenter Just Ice said on Planet Haaibo, a Radio 2000 morning show on 6 January.

I enjoy listening to his “black” humour while driving to work.

The comment came following a discussion on the matric results. It was suggested that “they” (the underachievers in Mpumalanga, KZN and Eastern Cape) must be exported to the Western Cape to breathe in the fresh mountain air. That would apparently get “their” minds working better.

Coming from Just Ice such a comment is not judged as derogatory .

No Tweets or Facebook attacks threatening court action and human rights commission investigations from the ANC.

Somehow society is not hurt when a blonde person tells a blonde joke or when a blind person tells a blind joke or when a dumb person tells a dumb joke.

Is it therefore acceptable for an affected person to belittle his own?

As long as the word “monkey” is not used, is it okay for a “litterbug” to be called a “pig”, a “drunk” to be called a “fish”, an irresponsible driver a “road hog”, a gay person a “moffie”, “fag”, “queer” or “double adapter”, a white person a “settler” or a “German” or a “boer”? Or is it okay as long as it is not tweeted?

It seems the scale of justice is not always level in a reverse apartheid society. I wonder.
