ON Sunday, 3 January, at 10.26pm Netcare 911 paramedics received a call to a head-on collision between a truck and a car on the N2 south at the Umkomaas off-ramp.
Reports from the scene indicate that the car with six people inside was travelling towards Durban when it veered across the centre median and hit head-on into a heavy goods truck that was pulling two trailers.

Exact detail to the cause will however remain a subject for police investigation.

“Paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene and found that the crumpled remains of the car had come to rest in the break-down lane of the south bound [carriageway], about 50 metres from the cab of the truck with the occupants still trapped in the twisted metal,” Chris Botha, media liaison officer - Netcare 911, said.
“After triaging the occupants from the car it was established that all six died on impact. Three people from the truck sustained minor injuries, one of them a young child. Medics treated the injured at the scene before transporting them to a local hospitals,” he said.
