HOW incredibly real it is that one never truly appreciates something until it is gone.

The current drought will have a crippling effect on our nation if it continues. It will very possibly become an economical perplexity, considering that some farmers have already reached bankruptcy and the lower end of the middle-class are being placed into a borderline impoverished situation.

All the government’s long- and short-term goals to increase South Africa’s GDP will be in vain.

We know that water is a sustenance for everything, hence one may refer to it as a power that sustains all forms of life.

Helen Keller, experiencing the total loss of two vital senses since infancy, grew defiant and frustrated, with an inability to learn anything.

However, on the very day she experienced the cool, tranquil feeling of water being flushed over her hand, she learnt, through sign language, 30 words — the power of water.

The recent rains have brought a ray of hope. Now that the awareness of sustainability has made a clear statement with the swift economic climate shift, we ought to realise the importance of our individual roles in supporting a long-term ecological balance.
