INDABA 2016 was opened by the minister of tourism cutting the ribbon in a cere- mony with a message to tourists that South Africa is a safe destination to visit, with the relaxation on unabridged birth certificates.

“This was said to capitalise on a weakened rand for a great value-for-money holiday,” said Kim McCarthy of Sapphire Coast Tourism.

“In keeping with the indaba theme of highlighting small businesses, Sapphire Coast Tourism elected to promote our Aliwal Shoal Reef and the diving fraternity in Umkomaas. At present, the market attracts some 45 000 divers annually,” McCarthy said.

She said in addition, young enterprising businesses such as Mnini Dam Conferencing, KZN Shuttle and Tours and Gary's Horseriding, were elected for mentorship at the indaba which offered opportunity to network with more than 1 000 international tour operators.
