THE February winner of the Sapphire Coast Photo Competition is Clive Chase.

Chase snapped this photo under this month’s theme: “River meets sea along the Sapphire Coast”.

“Photography has always been a big feature in our family. We have fond memories of my late Dad always having a camera of some sort hanging around his neck ... still, cine or video,” Chase said.

Chase said the winning photo came about by chance.

“I had taken my two grandsons to the spot at the Illovo River to do some fishing, and wandered off to see what else I could shoot.

“I saw this scene and took a few shots from different angles and I quite liked this one with the reeds, paddlers, bridge and sea.

“It seems to encapsulate everything we all love so much about living in this part of the world.”

He started seriously taking photos about eight years ago after investing in a digital camera, a Sony bridge camera. He has since upgraded twice with Canon equipment. For the winning picture, he used a Canon 5D Mk III, Aperture Priority, 1/32, f22 and ISO 125, and it was taken at 10.48am.

His other photography interests include running courses for beginners.

“This is to get them used to their equipment and get away from the ‘auto’ setting on their cameras. Through this, I met an influential figure in KZN Rally who invited me to take pictures at their car rally events.

“It combines a love of motor sport with my photography, and the drivers and riders seem to like the results, having ordered quite a few blown up prints.

Their Facebook page is KZN Rally.

All amateur photographers are called to submit their March photographs under the theme: “After Sunset along the Sapphire Coast”.

The theme includes, but is not limited to, entertainment - wining and dining. Submit photos of the establishment you are visiting as well as what you are eating or drinking, dancing or socialising with friends and family, evening picnics at Baggies Kiosk, evening events taking place along the Sapphire Coast, night shots of our busy streets or establishments.

Visit the Sapphire Coast Photo Comp Facebook page for further information.

Post your entries on the group and also email to sctphotocomp@ gmail.com. The winner will win R1 000.
