ON Saturday, 6 February, car dealership Mark White Nissan celebrated their “Change your Wheels, Change a Life campaign” which has seen the dealership, in partnership with the community, hand over eight wheelchairs in the past year.

The dealership has also signed an agreement with East Coast Radio and has sponsored a vehicle for DJ Rory Petzer. Rory went on air from the dealership and then drove off in his new Datsun Go.

The dealership handed over two more wheelchairs at the event. The first recipient was Elliot Thembinkosi, who was nominated by community member, Hancock Mzulwini.

“It is my passion to take care of people in my area and I noticed that Elliot was recently released from Prince Msheni Hospital having had both legs amputated - he had no assistance at home. They discharged him without a wheelchair, which was a huge burden for his family. I started asking around and was referred to Carol from Mark White Nissan,” Hancock explained.

“We are ever thankful for their assistance,” he added.

Helen Allan (25) was the second recipient. Allan has cerebral palsy and has been living in Toti since birth. “This will be my third wheelchair and I am extremely happy. The one I had before was getting old and giving me trouble, the brakes no longer worked and one of the footrests was also broken. A huge thank you to Mark White Nissan - I can now move around freely again and enjoy my independence,” she said.

“Mark White Nissan are just the conduits to the community who assisted us to be able to give away the wheelchairs. For every car we sell, a portion of the sales goes to the wheelchair campaign. I would like to welcome you all to Mark White Nissan and thank all the staff who are working diligently to make this happen,” said Dealer Principal, Erwin Vermaak.
