THE Upper South Coast Art Association (USCAA) celebrated Women’s Day at the pop-up gallery, Art on Kingsway, by inviting members of the community to a morning festivity with cake and refreshments.

One of the artists featured at the gallery is Marie Mansfield. Mansfield specialises in acrylics, but also dabs into oils and water colours.

“I started painting when I retired in 2003. I was a pharmacist and never thought about art or had the time. Then I met two USCAA ladies at a fleamarket, I took lessons with Ritha Fenske and never looked back,” said the artist who is inspired by wildlife.

Artist, Jean Taylor loves nature and said the beauty of nature inspires her paintings. Taylor tries to work mostly from her own photographs.

Her paintings on exhibit are water colours but she has also done oils, over the last couple of years.

“Since I got into oils, I have experimented more with where the light comes into the paintings. I go to demonstrations, hosted by USCAA at the library activities room. I find them challenging and it takes me out of my comfort zone and gives me the opportunity to learn new techniques,” she said.
