The African Arts Institute is now accepting applications from young cultural entrepreneurs who operate in Townships of the Greater Western Cape Region in South Africa to take part in a new Cultural Accelerator.

“The DAC-supported AFAI Cultural Accelerator is much more than simply a training. It is an innovative development of AFAI’s EU-supported African Cultural Leadership Programme which we have been running over 4 years with partners from across the African continent. The Cultural Accelerator is a medium-term creative journey and partnership with entrepreneurs who resonate with the mission of AFAI.” says Belisa Rodrigues, Business Manager African Arts Institute.

The AFAI Cultural Accelerator includes a focus on business skills; project incubation; Access to finance; Mentorship and bespoke Networking opportunities.

Deep Dive Phase I

From 28 September to 02 October 2015, AFAI will present a five-day course, aimed at individuals from the Western Cape region wanting to enhance their business and social enterprises within the arts and culture sectors. Applicants who live and work in various townships in the greater Cape Town region are strongly encouraged to apply. The course will take place in the Cape Town CBD. A five day course will be the phase 1 of the process possibly leading to a six month partnership with the African Arts Institute should the learning partners be selected to continue the programme.

Accelerator Phase II

The six month process will include among other opportunities: short focused online/off line course; fortnightly mentoring session; monthly learning and sharing spaces; access to resources including financial support to those selected from the Deep Dive phase. A minimum of 6 applicants will be accepted into each phase I and phase II, with full scholarships.

The deadline for applications is Monday the 07 September 2015.
