Sanelisiwe Sithole is an inspiration and a beauty queen to her community.

The reigning Miss Teen Cape Town 2014 and also Miss Khayelitsha 2014, added a new project to her busy schedule, which is called Motivating Girls and Boys in Township Schools, recently.

Sithole,19, from Town Two in Khayelitsha, recently visited her neighbourhood school Thembelihle High School as the first school in her project.

Here she shared her experiences with learners and motivated them to push hard under any circumstances to achieve their goals.

According to her : “When I approached the principal(about the motivational talk), he was so excited. I have come to realise that all things are possible and we CAN change the world. If I can touch one soul and make a positive difference in the lives of others then that is all that is important to me.”

Bongani Mfikili, the principal applauded her verve.

“I am very happy for her visit. She is a real role model to our learners. There were learners that really needed such motivation from someone who is almost their age.”

Mfikili said the staff have noticed behavioural change in the learners since her last visit.

He said he was looking forward to invite her again to give a motivational talk to the Grade 12 classes.

“Teenage pregnancy is rife; so is the drop-out rate,” he said.

This, coupled with family problems are challenges that they go through as growing up human beings.

“Learners need someone that they can feel comfortable talking to. They were stunned to see her and they seemed to admire her a lot,” he added.

Sithole is a first year student at Varsity College, studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication degree.

She is also a pageant organiser and work full-time.

Sithole said their passion for the media industry drove her to choose the course.

Motivating Girls and Boys in Township Schools is in the process of being registered as a Non Profit Organisation (NPO).

“I know and believe that townships have a lot of untapped talent. All they(youth) need is motivation to go out there.”
