The killers of two brothers who were gunned down outside the trendy Rands restaurant in Khaya Bazaar in Khayelitsha are still on the run.

This is not the first time in as many weeks that Khaya Bazaar is in the spotlight.

Just two weeks ago, Silulo Ulutho Computer Technologies boss Luvuyo Rani, along with other business associates, were allegedly robbed at gunpoint by 10 men. The bandits made off with material worth R112 000.

On Saturday, popular music producer Nhonho ‘Inffo’ Lemena, 32, and his younger brother Thapelo, 28, were allegedly shot and killed after getting involved in an argument with three men on Saturday evening.

Then on Sunday, a day after their shooting the body of a man was discovered not far from the business centre. Lingelethu West Colonel Michael Rietz said: “On Sunday night at around 23:00 the body of a male was found behind Khaya Bazaar. He appeared to have been shot in the face. It is alleged that he may have been a drug dealer. No arrests have been made regarding the incident,” said

According to the police, the Lemena brother’s demise was the result of a squabble regarding a parking lot, after the suspects had tried to park next to the deceased’s vehicle.

“It is alleged that the suspects, who were driving a white Volkswagen Microbus wanted to park next to the deceased’s vehicle but the doors were open. An argument took place which then escalated to one of the occupants of the microbus shooting at the victim’s vehicle,” said Rietz. The two brothers were fatally wounded while a third passenger managed to flee the scene of the shooting.

“Eight shots were fired during the attack. No arrests have been made yet,” he said.

It is believed that the three occupants had tried to gain entrance to Rands’ restaurant, but were turned away because they seemed to be younger than the minimum requirement age of 21 years old.

They scuffled with the bouncers before leaving, only to return later and instead got involved in the murder. The surrounding community, SAPS and the establishment’s managements has been engaged in various meetings to address security and safety issues after the latest incident
