In their own words, they say they are a bunch of winners!

It’s not a girly bragging but a fact, if you look closely at their results.

The well-travelled girls from Iqhayiya High School in Khayelitsha have cut themselves a niche in rugby circles, where they play for the Western Province select teams in under-16 and under-18.

Coach Thembani “Ntsimbi Ayigobi” Ngubelanga hailed his girls as “heroes” when they returned from a recent trip in Jozi where they chalked an hundred per cent win record.

Playing against Blue Bulls they pasted an impressive 75-5 win, blasted a hapless Limpopo team 88-0 and again beat Bulls 67-7 to claim a trophy in Sevens under-16 finals.

Now with all those victories a thing of the past, the girls are ready to hit the road once more.

On September 12 they are off to East London where they will face a Border team they had already beaten in one of their travels.

Captain Thandile Mazwi promised that they will bring more glory from their trip.

“We are conditioned to win and we will return in a happy mood,” sad Thandile.

Iqhayiya High School principal Ayanda Mbava said she was very proud of “my girls”.

“They are putting Khayelitsha and our school on the map. They are also role models for young girls who look up to them. We must encourage girls to participate in all sorts of sports,” she said.

The team that comprises of Ncediswa mahinjana, Asavela Siswana, Zintle Nonkasana, Asanda Dudumashe, Sinesisa Vuso, Lindiwe Skeyi, Thandile Mazwi, Zizipho Qhaba and Lihle Mzimkhulu, certainly deserves to have their names written in letters of gold for they have taken women rugby to greater heights in the townships and beyond
