Mini children’s theatre fest a place to be

2015-06-18 06:00

Young theatre-goers can look forward to the mini children’s theatre festival at Artscape Theatre this winter school holiday.

Stagecraft Drama Studio is in full swing with rehearsals for the ever popular stories More Adventures of Noddy and Fantastic Mr Fox.

More Adventures of Noddy by Enid Blyton has been adapted by acclaimed children’s dramatist, David Wood and will be presented by arrangement with DALRO, at 10:30 from Friday 26 June to Friday 4 July and on Tuesday 7 July with 12:30 performances on Monday 6 and Wednesday 8 July. In this production, Tessie Bear is very concerned about Noah’s Ark. Repairs are needed to stop the animals from escaping and food stores are running low. Tessie decides to collect donations of coins to save the Ark and its animals, but naughty Sly and Gobbo are up to their tricks again and Mr Plod has a difficult time keeping track of these tricky Goblins.

With the help of Bumpy Dog, the Skittle family and all their Toytown friends, Noddy, Tessie, Big Ears and Mr Plod are able to stop the Goblins from sneaking off with the tin of coins.

The story of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, adapted by Sally Reid, is about the Fox family who lives underground. Mr Fox goes out at night to get food for them all, from the farms of Boggis, Bunce and Bean, one fat, one short, one lean. These three mean farmers try to catch the foxes but Fantastic Mr Fox is too clever for them. Performances of Fantastic Mr Fox are on July 6, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 at 10:30. Both productions are directed by Cheryl Abromowitz and Caryn Resnik and parents are encouraged to bring their children early to enjoy activities like face painting, puzzles and play tents in the Artscape Foyer. Children who dress up as their favourite Noddy character on Saturday 27 June or favourite Mr Fox character on Wednesday 8 July, qualify for a prize. V

Tickets cost R70 and are available from Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695 with discounts available for block bookings of 20 or more
