Following leads after an alleged business robbery that took place in Block 33, in Harare, police instead ended up arresting the ‘victim’ of the crime.

The ‘victim’ is a Somalian national who had reported that on a Monday on August 24 in the morning, four ‘suspects’ had stopped at his business and pretended to be customers.

One of them produced a firearm and forced them to open the burglar gates. The suspects allegedly took cash, cigarettes and airtime and drove off in a white Isuzu bakkie.

the next morning, the investigating team made an unannounced visit to the store as part of the ongoing investigation.

As they approached, the victim became fidgety, which raised the hunch of the cops. They frisked him and in his possession found a firearm (Astra pistol 40 calibre) with twelve live ammunition.

A 41 year old Somalian national was arrested for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.

He is expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court next Thursday
