Educators and learners were left disturbed after they found their school burgled once again, on Thursday, in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha.

The last of series of burglaries at Sivuyiseni Primary School is alleged to have taken place on early hours of Thursday morning.

The thugs are said to have tried to steal a building material in a site for construction for Grade R classes and also failed execute their plan of stealing computers in a computer lab.

Themba Mbathane, the school principal, said thugs gained entry in a computer lab and stole, among other things, cooking oil and packets of rice for nutrition which was stored there.

They also attempted to steal a computer box, but it got stuck on the roof which resulted in abandoning it.

The computer box was still pooping out from the roof top in a small space they created after removing the roof.

“It took me about 30 minutes to try and bring order in the school as teachers and learners were so disturbed to find another burglary in the school. The burglaries traumatise all of us. I am now putting my hope to the community to protect the school,” Mbathane said.

He also said the security personnel for the school “fled” for his life after a number of armed thugs invaded the school.

A worker for Matameli Consulting Building, Construction and Civil Works, who wished to remain anonymous fearing for her life, said their security guard who was on the site was attacked by three armed thugs on the night.

The thugs have kicked the door and demanded the keys to another container where the building materials and tools were stored.

“The thugs kicked the door down to gain entry to the container where the security was. They demanded the keys to the container where the building material and tools were stored. He noticed that the thugs were carrying a toy gun and started to put up a fight with them before they ran away,” the worker said.

The damaged door was still evident of the attack when City Vision visited on Thursday.

The security at the construction site was not harmed and the other one for the school was also not harmed.

Mbathane also said the burglary followed the one which took place two days earlier where an internet modem in his office was stolen and other items in a storeroom.

There are many other burglaries that have been recorded in the school in as many months before.

Sergeant Nosiphiwo Mtengwana, communication officer at Harare Police Station, said they were investigating the case of burglary and that no arrest(s) were made.

Mtengwana appealed to anyone who can assist with information that can lead to the arrests to come forward.
