Reverend Ntobeko Gijana is from the Presbyterian Church of Africa, William Bottoman circuit in Khayelitsha, is an emerging radio personality whose career took off about two years ago with Radio Zibonele FM.

A family man with more than 10 years of married life. We Asked him:.

Q- How does being a radio host affect your duties as a church leader?

These jobs compliments each other, I educate on radio and I educate by means of preaching the word of God .The support I get from the church and my family makes my job at Zibonele FM fascinating. The only thing I am still not used to is being treated as celebrity, with people screaming and expecting a bear hug from me.

You sometimes discuss controversial issues of faith or surrounding the body of Christ on the radio show, Ingcambu Zevangeli. How is the response?

(Giggling) Ministries do not have the same interpretation of the Word of God and most do not want to open themselves to criticism or other beliefs or interpretations and as a result become very angry and feel that the programme is promoting negative thoughts. However, the response is very good because the topics provoke discussions and that is our role as a community radio station.

Again the radio show, Intlalo Yomtshato you discuss marriage, relationships and sometimes intimate issues.

Intlalo has made me grow, I always strive to show that pastors live in the same communities with the same challenges in their families and married lives. I take the hat of Reverend Gijana of and replace it with that of a radio host and accommodate everybody.

The show has changed me from the man I used to be; a traditionalist who is also a man of God.

What is your family’s reaction to your topics, do you discuss them at home?

Yes I sometimes test them with my wife and friends before selling them to my line-manager. My wife supports me but does not always agree with my topics and the fact that she doesn’t, opens me to the way people will react and I go ahead with my research.

Worst topic that you ever discussed on air?

On the show Ingcambu zevangeli, God’s Gender, it was so hard to put it in a less offensive way but had to put it nevertheless, and used spiritual terms to make it sound polite.

But at the end it left listeners debating, questioning me and my beliefs. I am doing more research and will bring the topic again.

What is it that people do not know about you?

I am a very shy person, stubborn at times, caring and a firm believer of Christ.

. Rev.Gijana hosts Intlalo Yomtshato, Ingcambu zevangeli and Uhlangulo Lomphefumlo.
