Tshepo Nketle knocked on many doors before starting his own publishing company. He was always rejected.

But after publishing a book on the life of renowned jazz pianist Don Laka, the bouts of rejection are like a fading nightmarish dream.

Affectionately called the “Duke” by friends and acquaintances, he is rejoicing after winning the rights to Laka’s book.

Lesedi House Publishers is proud to be associated with the book called ‘Re-introduction to African History’ and subtitled ‘Know Thy Self’.

Nketle, an inspirational speaker, author and entrepreneur said although he had been rejected 37 times by various publishers, he never gave up.

“It wasn’t easy but I stayed in the game through sweat and tears. I never lost the zeal to dream big,” he said.

In 2014 he had the vision to start his own publishing company; with nothing, no experience and no money.

He kept going despite these challenges and finally, in 2015, he started Lesedi House with the support of few authors who believed in his vision.

He worked with a team who assisted him to fulfill the needs and dreams of the authors.

Today the Lesedi House team is doing a tremendous job, trying to make Nketle’s vision a success.

They already have done projects with the likes of Umhlobo Wenene FM’s DJ, Pastor Nozewu called Imihlinzo, actress Andrea Dondolo’s uNolali), Criselda Kananda’s You are never alone and Apostle Simon Mokoena’s Travelling with the Apostle 101 Days.

Don Laka is a famous pianist, composer, musician, producer, Kwai -Jazz legend, African activist and now an author.

His book was launched last two Sundays ago.

He was in Cape Town for a seminar hosted by the Nzulu Group in Langa and for the book launch.

The book is taking us to a moment of knowing ourselves and the hidden truth about our History as Black people.

Laka has travelled around the world and Africa especially Egypt, the ancient Egypt called Kemet ( land of the Blacks) searching for this truth about Black History and decided to write this book which Lesedi House has published.

There was a great number of guests who attended the event such as Inkululeko In Mind, Nzulu Group, #FeesMustFall students, academics and professional.

“The colonizers had destroyed our African History; they had buried its ashes under multiple layers of ground so that Africans may never- even by mere chance – find it. Then they stole its heritage and made it theirs” says Don Laka

“In this amazing historical, political, philosophical and spiritual book, Don Laka reveals the side of African History that the colonizers had made sure not to teach African people, not even at school.”

Laka has dedicated more than 30 years of his life travelling, reading and researching about the hidden truth behind the history of our mother continent.

According to Laka, Africans invented civilization and they shaped the current universe.

Nketle and Don are planning to take this book to all African countries, starting with Zimbabwe and the African Union to persuade them to put this book in the syllabus of all schools in Africa.

The children’s version of this book is already under way.
